Rainbow Tsunami: Trusting My Intuition.

It’s been a full three years or so since I last painted. There’s been an empty void and I’m ready to feel complete. We’ve had a house project that seems to go on forever and I’m desperate - I just have that urge to go large on it to swipe across the wall to become engulfed by it all. The wall from the garage got knocked down, the plaster is bare as are the floorboards - no heating and I’ve borrowed a light.

Stapling a sheet of canvas and I’m ready to go.

‘....a starry ache that lifted me up above a windswept city like a kite: my head in the rainclouds, my heart in the sky.’

Donna Tartt, The Goldfinch.

My painting, ‘Rainbow Tsunami,’ resembles a giant wave of clustered storms suspended high within a vast open sky. The picture has powerful and delicate sweeping brushstrokes created in a kaleidoscope of colour, expressing emotions that are raw and tender. Just like taking a kite to fly, thin lines delicately meander through the skies, clouds and waves, holding us by a thread to reality. Here we can break free, our head in the clouds, lifted up above and beyond our everyday constraints of the city.

Deeper within the textured layers of paint and contrasting colours, I am constructing an intuitive world into which we can escape and desire, somewhere beyond our vision, past the horizon, between the sky and the sea. A place to return and revisit, to explore and rediscover and while immersed, losing and finding ourselves once more, cherishing that particular moment in time. A painting to dream into where we can be happy just to be.

This is where my heart is in the sky.

Below are my two previous artworks that I painted 3 years before. The style is eccentric, a kind of psychopop and intricately detailed. It was great fun to abandon all that I have done up to that day, to look at things fresh from a totally different perspective. All of a sudden I found a new way of painting by trusting my intuition and following my gut.
